Recommended Firefox Add-ons: FEBE and CLEO

Ever had your computer crash on you, forcing you to reinstall everything from scratch? And right about when you had everything working and looking just right.

Well, I just happened upon a couple of Firefox add-ons that could help alleviate the frustration and depression that might befall your pitiful self in such a situation. They’re called FEBE and CLEO.

febe logoWhat FEBE does is back up your Firefox extensions, themes, bookmarks, preferences, passwords, cookies and just about everything else the browser offers. Essentially allowing you to backup or restore your entire profile. Now doesn’t that sound like a lifesaver after a system crash?

FEBE’s partner CLEO does the job of putting all that backed up information into a single cleo logo xpi file (e.g “myprofilestuff.xpi”). All you would have to do is drag this file into your Firefox browser et viola! Your browser looks and acts like it did before the crash.

Another application for this add-on pair would be standardizing the look and feel of Firefox over your home and work PCs. Or you can also share the CLEO-generated xpi file with your friends and show them how cool and efficient your profile is…

I’ve personally experienced having to reinstall my Xandros Operating system 2-3 times over the past 2 months and boy do I wish I’d backed up my Firefox profile. Well I’m not delaying in getting FEBE and CLEO right quick. Just go to the addons.mozilla.org website to get them downloaded and installed asap.

This is a GREAT find. I plan on using it. I’ve tried to just save the Mozilla folder but I can never restore it that way.

Sorry to hear that. These addons are so useful I’m sure compatible versions will be available in the not too distant future.
