Microsoft’s docx format for Word 2007 isn’t necessarily the most cloud-based or non-Microsoft Word processor-friendly format. For example, it isn’t possible to import docx files into Google Docs. If you’re an OpenOffice 2.4.1 user good luck opening a docx file. Heck even if you own a license for Microsoft’s Word 2003, it isn’t possible to open a docx file without first installing the MS Office Compatibility pack, which is an easy download for the Home User but what if you’re dependent on your company’s IT department to get it installed on your work PC. It’s all a big hassle.

But thanks to an online file conversion service Zamzar, turning those docx files to doc format can be as easy as following four steps as shown below:

Some alternative options would be to install the MS Office Compatibility Pack which allows Word 2003 to convert a docx file into something it can read, or if you’re an OpenOffice user you can install the version 3.0 Release Candidate which has native support for docx thankfully.
