Firefox 3.06, IE 8 RC1 and Google Chrome

February 3, 2009 saw the release of a patched up Firefox now up to version 3.06. I suggest you upgrade to this version as soon as possible as it fixes several security and stability issues. I won’t bore you with the details but I always think the latest patch to an already stable platform should only make it safer, faster and more solid as a product.

This comes in the heels of Microsoft releasing Internet Explorer 8 Release Candidate 1 (RC1) last January 26 which usually means the product is just about complete with just some minor tweaks to be had before IE8 is officially launched. I, of course, upgraded to the RC1 and so far it’s been working like a charm. All the websites I frequent seem to open without any obvious issue.

The Google Chrome stable release is currently at version 1.0.154.48 with the development version at 2.0.159.0. There have been no major issues in my use of this browser aside from the fact that I can’t view my online banking homepage which the other two browsers can do without a hitch. I am able to log in it’s just that as it launches the homepage (which actually launches on a new page) it suddenly closes. It could just be the pop-up blocker which can be disabled but not in a user friendly way.

In terms of speed and stability none of the three browsers have let me down. I can use any of the three browsers and get everything I need to do done. Firefox,  I would say, is still the best simply because of all the add-ons and extensions available that allow you to customize your web experience to no end. So if Microsoft or Google are serious about stifling the adoption of Mozilla’s browser they better build a comprehensive library of add-ons for their browsers too.

I just have a problem with Firefox though. I always experience the browser crashing on me even though I only have 4 or 5 tabs opened. Am not using any other browsers nor were there other Firefox windows opened. But it simply crashes :-(
